BRASWELL FAMILY SENIOR CARE’S FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Desert Manor

Q:  What is the difference between Alzheimer’s and Dementia?
A:  Dementia is a general term for the loss of memory and other intellectual abilities serious enough to interfere with daily life.  Alzheimer’s is the most common type of dementia. Alzheimer’s destroys brain cells causing problems with memory, thinking and behavior. These problems become severe enough to affect work, life long hobbies and social life.

Q: What is the patient to nursing staff ratio?
A:
We meet or exceed the minimum nursing hours per patient day as required by the state of California.

Q:  What are the stages of Alzheimer’s disease?
A:
The Alzheimer’s Association recognizes seven stages of Alzheimer’s disease, they are: no-impairment, very mild cognitive decline, mild cognitive decline, moderate cognitive decline, moderately severe cognitive decline, severe cognitive decline and very severe cognitive decline.  It is important to keep in mind that not everyone will experience the same symptoms in these stages or progress at the same rate.

Santa Fe Assisted Living

Q:  Are there any admission fees?
A: Since Santa Fe Assisted Living is a non-medical facility it does not bill insurances and admission fees are based on rental rates, therefore these fees will vary upon what room and services are required.  Please contact Tracy at Santa Fe Assisted Living (760) 365-0887 for details on admission fees.

Q:  Do you provide furnished rooms?  If so, what furnishings are included?
A:  Yes, we can provide a fully furnished room that includes a twin bed, dresser, night stand, chair and lamp.

Q:  What kind of activities do you offer Residents?
A:
We encourage our Residents to stay active, that is why all three of our facilities provide Activity Directors who plan a variety of weekly activities such as lunch and movie outings, bingo, church services, arts and crafts, sit and get fit exercises and pet therapy.

 Sky Harbor Care Center

Q:  Do rooms already have a telephone and television?  Is cable provided?
A:  No, Cable, televisions and telephones are not provided by Sky Harbor Care Center and these items are also not included in room fees.  There is a limit of one television per room.  If a television and/or telephone are desired, the resident, resident’s family, responsible party and/or conservator are responsible for these items and any fees incurred while using these items.

Q:  What are your visiting hours?
A:  Since Sky Harbor Care Center strives to provide a home-like atmosphere, visiting hours are not restricted and family member’s and friends can visit their loved one at their leisure as their schedule allows.  However, after 8pm the facility is locked and visitors will have to use an alternative entrance and be buzzed in by a staff member.

Q:  What items are Residents allowed to bring?
A:  Items (such as furniture) are limited to whatever room space allows and all clothing must be labeled.  Since many of our Residents are on strict diets, we require that all food not offered by Sky Harbor Care Center be approved by the Resident’s nurse and stored in a refrigerator near the nursing station.
